Best Google Jules Alternatives Before It Shuts Down (Dec 31, 2026)
By Balwant Rawat · Published · Updated · Research-based (not yet hands-on tested)
Research-based comparison. We haven’t yet run the same task through each agent. Plan and price details come from the sources linked below, checked 4 November 2026. Prices change often, so confirm on each vendor’s pricing page.
When does Jules shut down, and what changes on 11 November?
From Google’s Jules changelog (29 Oct 2026): Jules will wind down on December 31, 2026. You have until November 11, 2026 to continue finishing up sessions. After November 11, 2026, we will be turning Jules to read-only until the end of the year.
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| 29 Oct 2026 | Shutdown announced; export published |
| Until 11 Nov 2026 | Normal use; finish sessions |
| 11 Nov – 31 Dec 2026 | Read-only |
| 31 Dec 2026 | Jules winds down |
How do I export my Jules data?
Google says you can export “account settings, environment variables, scheduled tasks, connected repositories, memories, setup scripts, and every session” to a local folder (Google). The export uses the Jules Tools CLI (npm install -g @google/jules, then jules login) and a prompt from Google’s notice (enjoy.dev summary). The export includes environment-variable values, so keep that folder private and out of your repos.
What are the best Jules alternatives?
| Option | Where it runs | Entry plan (per enjoy.dev, 4 Nov 2026) | Scheduling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Antigravity | Your computer; Google’s cloud (remote agents rolling out from 3 Nov) | Free local quota; Google AI Pro $19.99/mo for remote agents | Automations |
| OpenAI Codex Cloud | OpenAI’s cloud | ChatGPT Plus, $20/mo | ChatGPT scheduled tasks |
| Claude Code cloud sessions | Anthropic’s cloud | Claude Pro, $20/mo ($17 billed yearly) | Cloud scheduled tasks |
| GitHub Copilot cloud agent | GitHub cloud sandboxes | Copilot Pro, $10/mo; sandbox time billed by usage | Automations (private/internal repos) |

Google Antigravity: the official successor
Google’s notice names “our agent-first platform, Google Antigravity” as where Jules’s learnings are going. The remote agents are rolling out gradually, so you may not have them yet.
Codex Cloud, Claude Code and Copilot: available today
All three already do what Jules did: clone your GitHub repository in the cloud, work on it while your laptop is closed, and hand back changes. Copilot’s cloud agent is the closest fit if you assigned work from GitHub issues.
What will Jules users miss most?
On Hacker News, users said they’d miss the generous free tier (“no more 100 PRs a day for free”) and features like “scheduled runs, commenting directly on GitHub pull request”. Check those two things first when you choose a replacement.
How we’ll test
TODO: hands-on results. Run one identical task (e.g. fix a failing test and open a PR in a sample repo) through each agent. Record time to PR, whether tests pass, cost and plan used, and the date. Add screenshots.

Frequently asked questions
When does Google Jules shut down?
Google's changelog (29 Oct 2026) says Jules will wind down on December 31, 2026. You can keep finishing sessions until November 11, 2026; after that Jules is read-only until the end of the year.
Will I lose my code?
No. Google says your code, branches and pull requests already live in GitHub, so they stay where they are. The export covers settings, environment variables, scheduled tasks, connected repositories, memories, setup scripts and session history.
Is there a free alternative close to Jules's free tier?
Not in the cloud, as far as we can find. Jules's usage page listed 15 tasks a day on the free tier. According to an enjoy.dev roundup, Antigravity has a free quota on your own computer, but its remote agents, Codex Cloud, Claude Code cloud sessions and Copilot's cloud agent all need paid plans.
Which alternative supports scheduled runs and working from GitHub?
Each option has some form of scheduling: Claude Code cloud scheduled tasks, Copilot Automations (private and internal repositories only), ChatGPT scheduled tasks and Antigravity Automations. Copilot's cloud agent takes work assigned on GitHub, which is the closest match to Jules's GitHub label. Check the vendor's docs for current limits.
